About the Owner and the History of the Company's Founder:
John W. Burt grew up in Northwest Indiana, just outside Chicago where he spent many years working
for his father's construction company. He was always referred to as the "young boss" out in the field.
Throughout his time working in and out of Chicago, he gained much of his knowledge of construction
means and methods as a laborer, concrete finisher, rough carpenter/framer, heavy equipment operator as
well as others. He went on to attend Ball State University where he met his future wife, Amber.
During his stay he earned two degrees within the Architecture Program and won the thesis design
award named "CSI Thesis Medal Award" for the most constructible thesis design.
After graduation he was recruited as a lead designer by the No. 1 Architecture firm in the state,
located in Indianapolis, IN. Through the direct contact and mentoring of the senior staff within the
company, he grew his portfolio quickly with such clients as DePauw University and Duke Realty.
He was able to touch on all aspects of architecture, including office management and client relationship
development while helping the firm win several different AIA design awards. After a few years there,
he, his wife Amber and his new son Payton decided to pursue a different venture. Moving within the
firm, they moved to Orlando, FL where he helped to manage a new satellite office. After some time
devoting his life to the firm in Orlando, he felt deprived of the high profile project types and
clientele he was used to handling back in Indiana. His creative nature couldn't find an outlet where
he was and eventually felt trapped. His passion for creativity wouldn't allow him to sit back and
wait long for the next big challenge in his life. He decided to part ways with the company and
venture out on his own.
Day one he was working out of a 10' x 10' guest bedroom which had a queen size bed as well as his desk.
He had to use the adjacent closet to store the computer, printers and large format plotter on the top
closet shelf. This wouldn't last long. His passion for creativity and dedication to clients needs,
including timeliness of delivery caught on like a wild fire and allowed him much success very early on.
He moved the family into a decent sized house the following year which allowed him two full rooms for
the home office. Just a year later he had five employees working out of those back rooms feeling cramped.
Add to this situation a third joy of he and Amber's life, a little daughter named Ashleigh, and his life he
felt was on the path to success personally and professionally.
Now just one year later, JWB Architects is formally announced to the world and moves into their current
corporate headquarters at 30 Remington Road, Oakland FL, where several architects and their support
staff take on the challenging and demanding needs of their clients with passion, creativity and plenty of
room to grow.
